Course Description+

The World History course is designed to provide students with the analytical skills and factual knowledge necessary to deal critically with the problems and materials in the world from prehistoric times to the present. The development of civilization and the western world is a main area of focus. Students will be able to think like a historian and understand how the world connects through international societies and compare them to those ancient human societies.

This 6-week course is offered for first time credit, for credit grade replacement, or for non-credit enrichment in preparation for taking the course in the future. Please check with your school regarding credit from outside institutions.

Session dates:
Session 1B: 6/10/24 - 6/28/24 (12:15 p.m. - 4:15 p.m.) (EST) - 0.50 credit
Session 2B: 7/01/24 - 7/19/24 (12:15 p.m. - 4:15 p.m.) (EST) - 0.50 credit - Closed 7/04/24

6 weeks course

For full 1.00 credit the student MUST complete both 'B' sessions (6-weeks)
For 0.50 credit or audit the student may take first session only '1B' (first 3 weeks)

Meet John Briano+

John Briano is currently a dean and a World History teacher at American Heritage School in Plantation. He earned a BA in History from the College of Staten Island. John has 13 years experience in the educational field as a teacher and administrator, 9 of those years at American Heritage. Prior to teaching he spent over 20 years as a police officer/detective for NYPD

Meet Marissa Rothbaum+

American Heritage teacher, Marissa Rothbaum, earned a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in Social Science Education from the University of Central Florida. Throughout her teaching career, she has taught World History, Geography, American History, and American Government to students in high school. She also helped to introduce and integrate National History Day projects into the curriculum for her World History students. She is proud of her students who have gone on to compete at the county and state levels.

Additional Course Information+

A class may be canceled if fewer than 6 students enroll, and a specific teacher is not guaranteed. It is the parents’ responsibility to check with their child's school when seeking credit for a course. For online courses, the students’ cameras MUST be turned on at all times, and attendance is mandatory. To protect the privacy rights of all, there is absolutely no videotaping or recording by students during the course. Students must be age appropriate for the course, and all students must adhere to proper online etiquette. For online courses, young children must be supervised by a parent at all times.
