Course Description+
Spanish 4 Speakers Honors focuses on developing formal speaking and writing abilities and interpretive reading. Students engage with a variety of language use including interviewing, debating, public speaking, essay writing, reading a variety of documents including current event articles, scientific journals, editorials, and literary texts. Students acquire the necessary tools for the development, interpretation, and analysis of cultural materials from the Spanish-speaking world. Emphasis is on critical writing skills. Special attention is given to characteristics of heritage/native speaker expression. Throughout the year students progressively craft their language abilities and fine-tune their writing skills. The course is also meant to expand vocabulary, correct grammar and spelling use, explore different language registers, and raise awareness about the rich cultural and intellectual traditions of the Hispanic World. The course is conducted entirely in Spanish. Students are not permitted to retake the course in summer school AND overrides are not permitted the following year. Recommendations to Spanish AP are only made for students who maintain a B+ average each semester.
Prerequisite: Spanish 3 Speakers Honors with a B average or higher.
This 6-week course is offered for first time credit, for credit grade replacement, or for non-credit enrichment in preparation for taking the course in the future. Please check with your school regarding credit from outside institutions.

Session 2A: 6/29/26 - 7/17/26 (8:00 a.m. - 12:00 a.m.) (EST) - 0.50 credit
Session 3A: 7/20/26 - 8/07/26 (8:00 a.m. - 12:00 a.m.) (EST) - 0.50 credit
6 weeks course
For full 1.00 credit the student MUST complete both 'A' sessions (6-weeks)
For 0.50 credit or audit the student may take first session only '1A' (first 3 weeks)

A class may be canceled if fewer than 6 students enroll, and a specific teacher is not guaranteed. It is the parents’ responsibility to check with their child's school when seeking credit for a course. For online courses, the students’ cameras MUST be turned on at all times, and attendance is mandatory. To protect the privacy rights of all, there is absolutely no videotaping or recording by students during the course. Students must be age appropriate for the course, and all students must adhere to proper online etiquette. For online courses, young children must be supervised by a parent at all times.
