Course Description+

Geometry Honors is an advanced course designed to develop geometric relationships and deductive strategies that can be used to solve a variety of real world and mathematical problems. Topics include, but are not limited to, structure of geometry, angle concepts, triangles, quadrilaterals, basic proofs, perpendicularity and parallelism in a coordinate plane, similar polygons, circles and spheres, properties of circles, and right triangle trigonometry.

Honors level classes can expect more rigorous requirements for assignments and assessments.

Prerequisite: 'A' in Honors Algebra 1

This 6-week course is offered for first time credit, for credit grade replacement, or for non-credit enrichment in preparation for taking the course in the future. Please check with your school regarding credit from outside institutions.

6 weeks course

For full 1.00 credit the student MUST complete both 'A' sessions (6-weeks)
For 0.50 credit or audit the student may take first session only '1A' (first 3 weeks)

Meet Michelle Okun+

A twenty-one year veteran teacher, Ms. Okun has been teaching at American Heritage Schools for 11 years. During her time at American Heritage Schools, Ms. Okun has taught different math courses from Pre-Algebra through Analysis of Functions. Ms. Okun holds a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, a Master's degree in Educational Leadership, and is also ESE endorsed. Ms. Okun's teaching philosophy is, "all students can achieve." She reaches this goal by utilizing various teaching strategies to address all students' learning styles.

Meet Rachel Taylor+

Mrs. Taylor has been teaching high school Math for the past five years in Palm Beach County Schools and is currently teaching geometry at American Heritage Schools, Palm Beach Campus. Mrs. Taylor earned her Bachelor of Science degree in math from Penn State University and her Masters degree in secondary education mathematics from Florida Atlantic University. During her career, she has taught a variety of Math courses: AP Statistics, statistics and probability, geometry, and algebra. She was also the sponsor of her previous school's Mu Alpha Theta club. Mrs. Taylor has also been teaching college algebra at Palm Beach State College for the past two years. In the past decade, Mrs. Taylor learned that teaching is her true passion, and she is excited to be part of the American Heritage family.

Additional Course Information+

A class may be canceled if fewer than 6 students enroll, and a specific teacher is not guaranteed. It is the parents’ responsibility to check with their child's school when seeking credit for a course. For online courses, the students’ cameras MUST be turned on at all times, and attendance is mandatory. To protect the privacy rights of all, there is absolutely no videotaping or recording by students during the course. Students must be age appropriate for the course, and all students must adhere to proper online etiquette. For online courses, young children must be supervised by a parent at all times.Requirements for AHS Students; Students must currently be in 8th grade or higher and recommended for Geometry Honors and earned at least an A- for the 1st semester.
