Course Description+

Students who are working below grade level entering 8th grade will benefit greatly from this curriculum designed to give individual attention to each student. Basic skills in specific subject areas of math, language arts, and reading are reinforced using a variety of teaching techniques and materials tailored to each student's skill level. Executive functioning is incorporated into the daily syllabus, including study skills, organization, and problem solving. Students in this course are drawn from grades 6 - 8. Each student will receive an individualized learning plan based on their skill level.

Session 2A: 7/01/24 - 7/19/24 (8:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.) (EST) - Closed 7/04/24

Each session is unique, so your child will benefit from taking more than one session.

Meet Amanda Launel+

Amanda Launel is currently a faculty member at American Heritage Schools. She earned a BS in Elementary Education from Florida Atlantic University and holds a MA in Educational Leadership. Ms. Launel has been teaching for over 20 years and has taught first through eighth grades.

Meet Alyssa Kinigsberg+

American Heritage teacher Alyssa Kinigsberg has been teaching junior high English for nine years. She always knew her one career goal was to teach English, so she earned her Bachelor in English Education from Florida State University. She holds a professional teaching certification in English grades 6-12. In addition to teaching, she also works as a writer for the American Heritage social media team. In the past, she has served as a Teacher Mentor, Professional Learning Community facilitator, SSAT Prep Instructor, Yearbook Coordinator, tutor, and editor. Her approach to teaching English promotes analytical, critical thinking partnered with creative expression while fostering an appreciation for literature and the English language. She is an enthusiastic educator with a passion for inspiring lifelong thinkers, readers, and writers.

Meet Harry Torres+

Harry Torres has been teaching at American Heritage School for the past 11 years. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Florida International University. He has spent 16 years in education, teaching a variety of social studies courses in grades 6-12. As a part of the American Heritage faculty, he has had the privilege of successfully preparing hundreds of seniors for the AP Macroeconomics exam.

Meet Jenna Isaacs+

Jenna Isaacs is an 8th grade English teacher at American Heritage Schools. She graduated from FAU with a BA in English with a concentration in writing and rhetoric before obtaining an MA in English.

Additional Course Information+

A class may be canceled if fewer than 6 students enroll, and a specific teacher is not guaranteed. It is the parents’ responsibility to check with their child's school when seeking credit for a course. For online courses, the students’ cameras MUST be turned on at all times, and attendance is mandatory. To protect the privacy rights of all, there is absolutely no videotaping or recording by students during the course. Students must be age appropriate for the course, and all students must adhere to proper online etiquette. For online courses, young children must be supervised by a parent at all times.
