Course Description+

This enrichment program is for students entering first grade who are looking to get a jumpstart. Through differentiated instruction, teachers bring each individual learner to the next level. The focus is on increased academic and content specific vocabulary through literature and informational text. Students further enhance their decoding skills as they learn to manipulate increasingly longer words and increase reading fluency to strengthen comprehension skills. Young mathematicians learn addition/subtraction, value of money, units of measurement, time and weight, charts and graphs, word problems, patterns in counting, objects and shapes, place value, fractions and estimation, to name a few. This enrichment program also includes time each day for students to participate in fun outside activities led by the teacher and teacher's assistant. This is an all day program.

Session 1A: 6/10/24 - 6/28/24 (8:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.) (EST)
Session 2A: 7/01/24 - 7/19/24 (8:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.) (EST) - closed 7/04/24
Session 3A: 7/22/24 - 8/09/24 (8:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.) (EST)

Each session is unique, so your child will benefit from taking more than one session.


Meet Emily Nolle+

Emily Nolle is a graduate of American Heritage School. She graduated Cum Laude from the University of Alabama with a BS in Education. She has experience teaching 1st grade, 2nd grade, and 5th grade. Currently, she is teaching 1st grade at Faucett- Vestavia Elementary School in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Last Summer, Emily taught first grade at American Heritage Summer Institute.

Additional Course Information+

A class may be canceled if fewer than 6 students enroll, and a specific teacher is not guaranteed. It is the parents’ responsibility to check with their child's school when seeking credit for a course. For online courses, the students’ cameras MUST be turned on at all times, and attendance is mandatory. To protect the privacy rights of all, there is absolutely no videotaping or recording by students during the course. Students must be age appropriate for the course, and all students must adhere to proper online etiquette. For online courses, young children must be supervised by a parent at all times.
