Course Description+

Algebra 2 is a course designed to continue the study of the structure of algebra and geometry to provide the foundation for applying these skills to other mathematical and scientific fields. Topics include, but are not limited to, structure and properties of the complex number system, relations, functions and their graphs, polynomials and rational expressions, quadratic equations and inequalities, functions, rational and irrational exponents, logarithms, conic sections, and probability.

Prerequisite: Algebra 1

This 6-week course is offered for first time credit, for credit grade replacement, or for non-credit enrichment in preparation for taking the course in the future. Please check with your school regarding credit from outside institutions.

Session dates:
Session 1A: 6/10/24 - 6/28/24 (8:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.) (EST) - 0.50 credit
Session 2A: 7/01/24 - 7/19/24 (8:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.) (EST) - 0.50 credit - Closed 7/04/24

6 weeks course

For full 1.00 credit the student MUST complete both 'A' sessions (6-weeks)
For 0.50 credit or audit the student may take first session only '1A' (first 3 weeks)

Meet Jacqueline McCoy+

American Heritage teacher, Jacqueline McCoy-Lampkin has been teaching high school math, science and Spanish for 18 years. She has experience with teaching large and small groups. Jacqueline is a science major with a degree from Chicago State University; she completed research with the University of Chicago, and she is also a professional musician/singer who loves adding creativity to the subjects that she teaches.

Meet Bernice Walker+

Bernice Walker, a math and computer teacher, recently earned a Specialist degree in Educational Leadership from Florida Atlantic University. She also has earned a Masters in Mathematics and a Bachelors of Arts in Information Systems. Previous to starting her career at American Academy, she had retired from Broward County Public Schools after 28 years. Within the Broward County system, she held positions both in the classroom and in administration. She served 5 years as Coordinator of the SECME (Science Engineering Communications Mathematics Enrichment) Program for junior high and elementary students, which included teaching Code.org curriculum.

Additional Course Information+

A class may be canceled if fewer than 6 students enroll, and a specific teacher is not guaranteed. It is the parents’ responsibility to check with their child's school when seeking credit for a course. For online courses, the students’ cameras MUST be turned on at all times, and attendance is mandatory. To protect the privacy rights of all, there is absolutely no videotaping or recording by students during the course. Students must be age appropriate for the course, and all students must adhere to proper online etiquette. For online courses, young children must be supervised by a parent at all times.
